STRUCTURE
Drop Off
Outer Exposed

Monas Island is an outer-exposed rocky drop-off off Tofino, British Columbia, where the bottom falls through the 0 to 40 foot range and holds structure that concentrates both salmon and groundfish. Chinook Salmon peak from May through August and Coho Salmon run from June into October, with trolling anchovy, herring, hootchies, and spoons working the moving water along the edge. Lingcod and Black Rockfish both peak May through August and September respectively, and jigging metal jigs, leadhead jigs, and soft plastic swimbaits over the rock produces well through that window. Copper Rockfish hold along the same structure from February into October, taking jigs and cut bait fished close to the bottom. Pacific Halibut move through in the March to June window and respond to drift jigging with leadhead jigs and metal jigs across the deeper edge of the drop.
