Wingen Islets Hump

Wingen Islets Hump is a rocky pinnacle rising through an outer, exposed stretch of water off Tofino, British Columbia, with depths running from the surface down to about 90 feet. The structure holds Pacific Halibut, which peak from March through June, along with Lingcod and Chinook Salmon that peak May through August, plus a mix of Quillback, Redbanded, and Canary Rockfish and Pacific Cod. Anglers work the rock and adjacent contours with drift jigging for halibut, using leadhead jigs with soft plastics, metal jigs, or salmon bellies, and switch to bottom bait fishing with whole herring, salmon heads, octopus, or squid when the drift slows. Lingcod come off the same pinnacle structure on metal jigs, soft plastic swimbaits, and leadhead jigs, or on bait such as whole herring, squid, and live greenling. Chinook are taken by trolling anchovy, herring, hootchies, or spoons across the exposed water above the hump, with mooching cut-plug or whole herring as a supporting approach.
