STRUCTURE
Drop Off
Outer Exposed

Janson Island sits off Ucluelet on the outer exposed coast of British Columbia, where a mixed-bottom drop-off falls through depths of 25 to 115 feet. The structure holds a strong bottom fishery, with Lingcod peaking March through May, Pacific Halibut from April through August, and Black Rockfish and Copper Rockfish holding through the warmer months. Anglers work the drop-off edges by jigging metal jigs, leadhead jigs, and soft plastic swimbaits for Lingcod and rockfish, while drift jigging leadhead jigs with soft plastics or metal jigs covers halibut over the deeper mixed ground. Chinook Salmon run from May through August and Coho from May through September, both taken by trolling anchovy, herring, hootchies, and spoons along the exposed outer water. The varied depth and mixed bottom also support Kelp Greenling and Pacific Cod alongside the primary targets.
