About Brown Rock

Brown Rock is an outer-exposed pinnacle rising from rocky bottom off Winter Harbour, British Columbia, with depths running from 145 to 420 feet. The structure holds Chinook Salmon through their April to August peak and Coho Salmon from May into September, while Pacific Halibut concentrate over the surrounding bottom from May to August. Lingcod work the rock across two windows, February through April and June through August, alongside resident Pacific Ocean Perch, Rougheye and Shortraker Rockfish, and Sablefish at depth. Trolling anchovy, herring, hoochies, or spoons covers the salmon along the pinnacle's edges, and mooching cut-plug herring works the upper water when fish stack tight to structure. Halibut respond to drift jigging with leadhead jigs and swimbaits over the deeper flats, and Lingcod take metal jigs and leadhead jigs with soft plastics worked close to the rock.
