STRUCTURE
Drop Off
Outer Exposed

Matthews Island sits off Winter Harbour on the outer exposed coast of British Columbia, where a rock drop-off falls through depths of 330 to 1,310 feet. Chinook Salmon hold here from April through August and Coho Salmon from May through September, both taken by trolling anchovy, herring, hoochies, and spoons along the edge. Lingcod work the rock structure through two peaks, February to April and June to August, responding to metal jigs and leadhead jigs with soft plastics dropped to the bottom. Pacific Halibut move in from May to August across the deeper reaches, where drift jigging with leadhead jigs and swimbaits covers the seafloor. Canary Rockfish, Copper Rockfish, and Pacific Cod round out the catch over the same rocky terrain.
