About Montgomery Point

Montgomery Point is an exposed rock drop-off off Winter Harbour, British Columbia, where the bottom falls through 260 to 660 feet of outer-coast water. Pacific Halibut hold along this structure from May through August, while Lingcod concentrate through two windows, February to April and June to August. Chinook Salmon run April through August and Coho Salmon follow from May into September, with Pacific Cod, Sablefish, Canary Rockfish, and Pollock rounding out the mix over the deeper rock. Drift jigging with leadhead jigs, swimbaits, or metal jigs works the halibut over the drop, and the same jigging approach with metal jigs or leadhead jigs and soft plastics takes Lingcod holding tight to the structure. Salmon come to trolled anchovy, herring, hoochies, and spoons through the summer months, with mooching cut-plug herring as a supporting tactic along the steep edge.
