About North West Seal Rock
North West Seal Rock is an outer-exposed rocky drop-off off Crescent City, California, where the bottom falls steeply through depths of 330 to 1310 feet. The structure holds Chinook Salmon through their April to September peak, alongside Coho Salmon, Quillback Rockfish, Pacific Halibut, Sablefish, and Lingcod, which run strongest from February to March and again from August to October. Chinook hold in the water column here, and trolling anchovies, herring, spoons, or hoochies covers ground across the drop, while mooching whole anchovies or cut herring works the same fish more slowly. Lingcod sit tight to the rock, where jigging metal jigs, swimbaits, or leadhead jigs reaches them along the structure, and live rockfish, sanddabs, or squid draw strikes when the fish hold deep. Pacific Cod fills the winter window from November to January over the same rocky bottom.
