About Deep Reef
Deep Reef is a rocky pinnacle rising in outer, exposed water off Half Moon Bay, California, holding structure across depths of 10 to 30 feet. The rock draws a strong rockfish presence alongside Bocaccio, Canary Rockfish, and Widow Rockfish, with Lingcod peaking February through March and again August through October. Pacific Halibut moves in from April through September, while Chinook Salmon runs March through August and Coho Salmon, Pacific Mackerel, and Blue Shark round out the mix. Lingcod respond to jigging with metal jigs, leadhead jigs with swimbaits, or shrimp flies worked over the pinnacle, with live sanddabs and live mackerel or drifted swimbaits and rockfish carcasses filling in when the bite slows. Chinook are targeted by trolling anchovies, spoons, flashers, and hoochies, or by mooching whole anchovies and sardines over the same broken terrain.
