About Pillar Point Harbor Entrance Light
Pillar Point Harbor Entrance Light marks an outer-exposed rock drop-off off Half Moon Bay, California, where the bottom falls through depths of roughly 260 to 660 feet. Chinook Salmon run here from March through August and take trolled anchovies, spoons, flashers, and hoochies, with mooching whole anchovies or sardines behind banana weights as an alternative over the same water. Rockfish hold on the rock structure with a peak from May through September and respond to bait fishing with squid, anchovies, and shrimp flies, while jigging metal jigs and leadhead jigs works the same ground. Lingcod stack up on the drop-off in February and March and again from August through October, taken on metal jigs and leadhead jigs with swimbaits or on live sanddabs and mackerel. Cabezon feed close to the rock from April into fall, where bottom fishing with squid, shrimp, and cut bait reaches them among the structure.
