About San Pedro Rock
San Pedro Rock is an outer-exposed rocky drop-off off Half Moon Bay, California, where the bottom falls away through depths of 260 to 660 feet. Chinook Salmon move through in numbers from March into August, with Lingcod peaking February through March and again from August into October, Pacific Halibut running April through September, and aggregate Rockfish holding strong May through September. Anglers work the salmon by trolling anchovies, spoons, flashers, and hoochies across the upper water, switching to mooching whole anchovies or sardines when fish sit deeper. The rock structure and steep contour favor jigging metal jigs and leadhead swimbaits for Lingcod, along with live sanddabs and mackerel dropped tight to the bottom. Rockfish come on squid, anchovies, and shrimp flies fished near the reef, with jigs and swimbaits producing on drifts across the ledge.
