About Wash Rock
Wash Rock is an exposed sand flat off Half Moon Bay, California, running 10 to 30 feet deep across open, outer coastal water. The flat holds California Halibut through the warmer months, with a peak from April to August, alongside Lingcod that show strongest in February and March and again from August to October. Rockfish move over the area from May to September, Chinook Salmon run March through August, and Dungeness Crab fill in the colder stretch from October to January. Drift fishing with live anchovies, live smelt, or squid works the sand for halibut, while jigging metal jigs or leadhead jigs with swimbaits targets lingcod holding near bottom. For crab, pots baited with squid or fish carcasses sit well on this soft, level bottom, and trolling anchovies or spoons covers the water column for salmon.
