About Cypress Point Rock
Cypress Point Rock is an outer-exposed rocky drop-off off Monterey, California, where the bottom falls from the shallows to roughly 70 feet over hard structure. Lingcod hold across this rock and peak from November through January, March through May, and again in September and October, taking metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs worked along the drop, or live sanddabs and mackerel fished near the bottom. Blue and black rockfish stack up over the same terrain, both strong from March through September, with blue rockfish responding to shrimp flies, squid strips, and anchovies while black rockfish come to jigged metal and swimbaits. Copper rockfish fill in through July to September on squid, shrimp flies, and sardines, and Chinook salmon move through the area from March into July for anglers trolling anchovies, spoons, and hoochies behind flashers. California halibut work the shallower edges from March through September, taken on drifted live anchovies, sardines, and shiner perch.
