Cypress Point Hump is an outer-exposed rocky pinnacle off Monterey, rising through water that runs 40 to 120 feet deep. Chinook salmon move through in the spring and early summer, peaking from March to July, and trolling with anchovies, spoons, hoochies, and flashers works the upper water column, while mooching anchovies or sardines behind banana weights covers the same fish. Lingcod hold tight to the rock structure with peaks in November through January, March through May, and September through October, taken on metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs, or on live sanddabs and mackerel worked near the bottom. Copper rockfish peak from July to September and respond to bait fishing with squid, shrimp flies, and anchovies, while blue rockfish concentrate in spring and summer and take shrimp flies, squid strips, and swimbaits over the same pinnacle. The exposed position and the depth range across the rock reward drifts that keep baits and jigs close to the structure.
