About Sunset Point Hump

Sunset Point Hump is a rocky pinnacle rising from the outer, exposed waters off Monterey, holding fish across a depth range of roughly 60 to 120 feet. The structure concentrates rockfish, with Canary, Vermilion, and Widow Rockfish stacking around the high ground alongside Lingcod, which peaks from November through January, again in March through May, and once more in September and October. Chinook Salmon move through in the warmer months, running strongest from March into July. Lingcod respond to jigging with metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs worked over the pinnacle, while live sanddabs, live mackerel, or squid on live bait cover fish holding tight to the rock. Salmon are taken by trolling anchovies, spoons, hoochies, and flashers through the water column above the reef, with mooching anchovies or sardines a productive alternative.
