About West Bird Rock Hump

West Bird Rock Hump is a rocky pinnacle rising from the outer, exposed waters off Monterey, California, holding structure across depths of 120 to 240 feet. The rock draws a strong rockfish population, with Copper Rockfish peaking from July through September alongside Canary and Widow Rockfish, while Lingcod turn on across several windows spanning November through January, March through May, and September into October. Chinook Salmon move through from March to July, with Coho and Pacific Halibut adding to the mix. Anglers work the pinnacle for Copper Rockfish with bait such as squid, shrimp flies, anchovies, and sardines, backing that up with metal jigs, leadhead jigs, and swimbaits. Lingcod respond to jigging over the high rock with metal jigs and swimbaits or to live sanddabs and live mackerel, while Chinook come to trolled anchovies, spoons, hoochies, and flashers over the deeper edges.
