The Bird Rock Hump is a rocky pinnacle rising from the outer exposed seafloor off Monterey, California, with depths ranging from 120 to 240 feet. The structure holds copper rockfish, which peak from July through September, alongside lingcod that come on strongest in late fall through spring and again in early autumn. Cabezon work the rock through February to May and again in September, while Chinook salmon move through the area from March into July. Anglers targeting copper rockfish rely on bait fishing with squid, shrimp flies, anchovies, or sardines close to the rock, while lingcod respond to metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs worked over the pinnacle. Chinook are taken by trolling anchovies, spoons, hoochies, and flashers above the structure, and cabezon come to bottom fishing with squid, shrimp, and cut bait tight to the rock.
