About Army Point
Army Point is an inner, protected rock drop-off near San Francisco, where the bottom falls from roughly 135 to 345 feet along structured hard ground. Chinook Salmon are the headline fish here, peaking April through September and worked with trolling using whole anchovy, spoons, hoochies, and flashers, or by mooching anchovy and sardine over the deeper edges. Lingcod hold tight to the rock and turn on from February to March, again in August through October, and in December, responding to jigging with metal jigs and swimbaits or live sanddabs and anchovies fished close to the bottom. California Halibut move through from April to August and come to drift fishing with live anchovies, shiner perch, and midshipman across the drop. Cabezon round out the mix from spring into late fall, taking squid, shrimp, and cut bait worked on the bottom along the rocky contours.
