About Bluff Point
Bluff Point is an outer-exposed rocky drop-off off San Francisco, where the bottom falls through 80 to 200 feet of water. Chinook Salmon run the strongest here from April through September, with trolling whole anchovy, spoons, hoochies, and flashers working the upper column, while mooching anchovy or sardine on banana weights covers the same fish. The rock structure holds Lingcod, which peak February through March, August through October, and again in December, and they respond to jigging metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs, or live sanddabs fished tight to the bottom. Blue and Black Rockfish stack over the same terrain from spring into late summer, taking shrimp fly rigs and metal jigs on the drop-off's ledges. California Halibut move through from April to August and come to drift-fished live anchovies and shiner perch worked across the base of the structure.
