The Point Stuart Hump is a rocky pinnacle rising from the outer, exposed waters off San Francisco, with depths running 40 to 120 feet across broken structure. The rock holds aggregate rockfish and lingcod year-round, with lingcod peaking February through March, August through October, and again in December, while cabezon concentrate on the reef from April through June, in August and September, and again in late fall. California halibut move through from April to August and Chinook salmon run April to September in the surrounding water column. Lingcod respond to jigging with metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs worked over the pinnacle, while cabezon take squid, shrimp, cut bait, and live sanddabs fished on the bottom against the rock. Chinook are targeted by trolling whole anchovy, spoons, hoochies, and flashers, and halibut by drifting live anchovies, live shiner perch, or midshipman across the deeper edges of the structure.
