About Fanny Shoal
Fanny Shoal is an outer, exposed rock pinnacle off San Francisco, rising through depths of 150 to 210 feet in open Pacific water. The structure holds Chinook Salmon through its April to September peak, alongside Coho Salmon, Pacific Halibut, English Sole, Pacific Cod, aggregate rockfish, and Common Thresher Shark. Lingcod concentrate over the rock in cooler stretches, peaking February through March, again from August to October, and once more in December. Anglers work the water column for Chinook by trolling whole anchovy, spoons, hoochies, and flashers, or by mooching anchovy and sardine with banana weights. For Lingcod, jigging metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs across the pinnacle produces well, with live sanddabs and squid or drifted cut bait as supporting tactics over the broken rock.
