About Point Diablo
Pt Diablo is an outer-exposed rocky pinnacle off San Francisco, rising through waters that run 40 to 120 feet deep. The structure holds a strong rockfish population, with Blue Rockfish peaking from April through September and Black Rockfish from May through August, while Lingcod moves across the pinnacle in overlapping windows in February and March, August through October, and December. Anglers work the rock with shrimp fly rigs and metal jigs for Blue Rockfish, while jigging with metal jigs and swimbaits covers both Black Rockfish and Lingcod over the same broken terrain. Cabezon holds tight to the bottom here, peaking from April through June and again in late summer and late fall, and responds to squid, shrimp, and cut bait fished on the rock. Chinook Salmon runs through from April to September and is taken by trolling whole anchovy, spoons, and flashers over the deeper edges of the structure.
