About Alaqua Bayou
Alaqua Bayou is an inner, protected bay arm near Destin, Florida, with a sand bottom running 5 to 10 feet deep. Sheepshead peak from January through March, and Spotted Seatrout move through in two windows, March to April and October to November. Red Drum peak from September through November, while Spanish Mackerel stay active over a long run from March to October, alongside Gray Snapper and Common Snook. Across the shallow sand, anglers sight cast to Red Drum with gold spoons or paddle tail swimbaits and bottom fish for Sheepshead with fiddler crabs, live shrimp, or sand fleas. Spanish Mackerel respond to trolled small spoons and diving plugs, and casting metal jigs to breaking fish works when schools push into the bayou.
