About Goose Island
Goose Island is a sand-bottomed drop-off in the Panama City waters of Florida's Panhandle, where shallow flats fall away into depths of up to 30 feet. Red drum peak from August through October and respond to inshore casting with soft plastic jerkbaits, paddle-tail jigheads, and gold spoons worked along the edge of the drop. Sheepshead take over from January through March, with bottom fishing using fiddler crabs, sand fleas, or live shrimp drawing bites close to the sand. Gray snapper hold along the deeper break from May through August and take live pinfish or cut sardines fished on the bottom, while Spanish mackerel run from March through October and hit small trolling spoons and gotcha plugs over the shallower water. Common snook also round out the inshore mix along the edge of the drop-off.
