About Aquatic Life Ecosystem (Ale) NE Leg Reef
The Aquatic Life Ecosystem (ALE) NE Leg Reef is an artificial reef in federal Gulf waters off Destin, Florida, one leg of a structure set to concentrate bottom and pelagic fish. Red snapper peak from April through July and gray snapper from May through August, and both respond to bottom fishing with cigar minnows, live pinfish, and squid dropped tight to the structure. Greater amberjack crowd the reef in April and May, when live hardtail worked near the bottom or butterfly jigs on a vertical drop draw strikes. King mackerel patrol the water column from April through October and take slow-trolled live cigar minnows and menhaden around the reef's edges. Gag grouper peak from October through December and hold close to the reef alongside red grouper, where live pinfish and live grunts fished on the bottom target them.
