About Bay Cones Reef
Bay Cones Reef is an artificial reef near Destin in the Florida Gulf State Waters of the Panhandle Region, where placed structure concentrates bait and holds fish around the relief. Sheepshead lead the calendar from January through March, Spanish Mackerel run from March through October, and Gray Snapper peak from May through August. Spotted Seatrout show in March–April and again in October–November, overlapping the Red Drum peak from September through November, and Common Snook also appear on the target list. Bottom fishing is the primary approach on the reef itself, with fiddler crabs, sand fleas, and live shrimp for Sheepshead and live pinfish or cut squid for Gray Snapper. Spanish Mackerel respond to trolled small spoons and diving plugs or to metal jigs cast to breaking fish over the structure.
