About Sharp Point
Sharp Point is a protected bay point near Pensacola, Florida, where sand bottom slopes through 10 to 25 feet of sheltered inshore water. Red drum peak here in September and October, while sheepshead take over from January through March and gray snapper hold through the summer months of May to August. Spanish mackerel run the bay from April into October, and common snook round out the species mix at this spot. For red drum, inshore casting with jigheads with paddletails or gold spoons covers the sand flats, and popping cork fishing with live shrimp works the same water. Sheepshead and gray snapper respond to bottom fishing with live shrimp, while Spanish mackerel fall to trolling small spoons and straw rigs or casting metal jigs through the open bay.
