About Blue Mountain Center Patch Reef
Blue Mountain Center Patch Reef is an artificial reef in Florida's Panhandle state waters off Destin, near 30.3228, -86.2009. The structure holds Gray Snapper from May through August and Gag Grouper from October through December, with Sheepshead taking over the bottom from January through March. Bottom fishing is the dominant approach for all three, using live pinfish or cut cigar minnows for snapper and grouper and fiddler crabs, sand fleas, or live shrimp for Sheepshead. Pelagics work the water column above the reef, with Spanish Mackerel peaking March through October and King Mackerel April through October. Kings respond to slow trolling with live cigar minnows or live menhaden, while Cobia arrive March through June and again in September and October and fall to sight casting with bucktail jigs or live eels.
