About Cobbs Point
Cobbs Point is an exposed sand drop-off near Destin, Florida, where the bottom falls from 20 to 80 feet along the outer edge of the Panhandle's Gulf state waters. Sheepshead peak from January through March, Spotted Seatrout run strongest in March–April and again in October–November, and Red Drum peak from September through November. Spanish Mackerel hold here from March through October, with Gray Snapper and Common Snook rounding out the species mix. Anglers work the drop-off by bottom fishing with fiddler crabs, sand fleas, or live shrimp for Sheepshead, and by soaking cut bait or live pinfish along the slope for Red Drum. Over the open water above the edge, trolling small spoons or casting metal jigs to breaking fish targets passing Spanish Mackerel.
