About County Reef
County Reef is an artificial reef in the Gulf state waters off Destin, Florida, within the Panhandle Region. Gag Grouper hold on the structure with a peak from October through December, and anglers target them by bottom fishing with live pinfish, live cigar minnows, or live grunts. Sheepshead stack up from January through March and take fiddler crabs, live shrimp, and sand fleas fished tight to the reef, while Gray Snapper peak from May through August and respond to live shrimp and cut squid on the bottom. Cobia move through from March to June and again in September and October, and sight casting with bucktail jigs or live eels draws strikes from fish cruising near the reef. King Mackerel peak from April through October and Spanish Mackerel from March through October, with slow trolling live cigar minnows for kings and trolling small spoons for Spanish working the water above the structure.
