About DEP LAP VALP Reef
DEP LAP VALP Reef is an artificial reef in federal Gulf waters off Destin, Florida, where deployed structure draws reef fish and passing pelagics. Red Snapper peak from April through July and Gray Snapper from May through August. King Mackerel hold over the area from April into October, Greater Amberjack peak in April and May, and Gag Grouper move onto the structure from October through December alongside Red Grouper. Bottom fishing with live pinfish, cigar minnows, or cut bait works the reef for snapper and grouper, while vertical jigging with butterfly jigs and metal jigs pulls amberjack off the structure. Above the reef, anglers slow troll live cigar minnows, menhaden, or blue runners for King Mackerel.
