About Destin Harbor
Destin Harbor is a protected inner bay on the Florida Panhandle, where sand bottom runs 10 to 25 feet deep in sheltered water off Destin. Sheepshead lead the winter action from January through March, and anglers target them with bottom fishing using fiddler crabs, live shrimp, and sand fleas. Spotted seatrout peak in March and April and again in October and November, and drifting with live shrimp, popping cork rigs, and paddle tail swimbaits covers the sandy stretches effectively. Red drum build through September to November and respond to bottom fishing with cut bait, live pinfish, and live finger mullet. Spanish mackerel run from March through October, and trolling small spoons and diving plugs or casting metal jigs to breaking fish rounds out the harbor's seasonal lineup alongside gray snapper and common snook.
