About Destin High School Reef
Destin High School Reef is an artificial reef in federal Gulf waters off Destin, Florida, where placed structure concentrates both bottom fish and pelagic predators. Red Snapper peak from April through July, Gray Snapper from May through August, and Greater Amberjack in April and May, while King Mackerel peak from April into October and Gag Grouper from October through December, with Red Grouper also among the target species. Bottom fishing over the structure takes Red Snapper on cigar minnows, squid, and live pinfish, and the same approach with live pinfish, live cigar minnows, or live grunts targets Gag Grouper tight to the reef. Greater Amberjack respond to live hardtail and live cigar minnows fished near the bottom, with vertical jigging using butterfly jigs as a supporting method. Above the reef, slow trolling live cigar minnows, live menhaden, or live blue runners targets King Mackerel through the warm months.
