About DHS Reef
DHS Reef is an artificial reef in Florida's Panhandle state waters off Destin, positioned at 30.3538, -86.6162 in the Gulf of Mexico. The structure draws pelagic and bottom species through much of the year, with Spanish Mackerel peaking from March through October and King Mackerel running from April through October. Cobia move through from March to June and again in September and October, while Gray Snapper peak from May through August and Gag Grouper take over from October through December. Bottom fishing tight to the reef with live pinfish or cut cigar minnows targets grouper and snapper, and Sheepshead hold on the structure from January through March, taking fiddler crabs and sand fleas. Above the reef, anglers slow troll live cigar minnows for King Mackerel and troll small spoons or diving plugs for Spanish Mackerel.
