About East Pass
East Pass is a sand-bottomed inlet corridor at Destin, Florida, linking Choctawhatchee Bay to the open Gulf within the Panhandle region of Florida's Gulf state waters. Sheepshead peak from January through March, and anglers target them by bottom fishing with fiddler crabs, live shrimp, sand fleas, and barnacle-encrusted mussels. Spotted seatrout run strongest in March–April and again in October–November, while red drum peak from September through November and respond to bottom fishing with cut bait, live pinfish, and live finger mullet along the sandy channel. Spanish mackerel hold through a long March–October window, and trolling small spoons and diving plugs or casting metal jigs to breaking fish covers the exposed outer reaches of the pass. Gray snapper and common snook round out the species mix in this corridor where bay and Gulf waters exchange.
