About Eglin Reef
Eglin Reef is an artificial reef in the Gulf of Mexico off Destin, Florida, within the Panhandle Region of Florida's Gulf state waters. Spanish Mackerel and King Mackerel work the reef from spring through fall, peaking March through October and April through October respectively, while Cobia push through in two windows, March through June and again September through October. Gray Snapper hold tight to the structure from May through August, Gag Grouper peak October through December, and Sheepshead take over the reef from January through March. Anglers slow troll live cigar minnows and live menhaden around the reef's edges for King Mackerel and pull small spoons and diving plugs for Spanish Mackerel. Bottom fishing with live pinfish targets Gray Snapper and Gag Grouper, and fiddler crabs and sand fleas work for Sheepshead feeding on the reef.
