About Fish Haven 16 Reef

Fish Haven 16 Reef is an artificial reef in the Florida Gulf State Waters off Destin, part of the Panhandle Region's network of structure built to hold bottom fish and attract pelagic species. Gray Snapper peak from May through August and respond to bottom fishing with live pinfish, live shrimp, or cut cigar minnows, while Sheepshead take over from January through March on fiddler crabs and sand fleas fished tight to the structure. Gag Grouper peak from October through December, when anglers drop live pinfish or live grunts straight to the reef for bottom fishing. Cobia move through from March to June and again in September and October, and sight casting bucktail jigs or live eels to fish cruising near the surface over the reef is the dominant approach. Spanish Mackerel run from March through October and King Mackerel from April through October, with trolling small spoons for Spanish and slow trolling live cigar minnows or live menhaden for kings around the reef's perimeter.
