About Fish Haven 17 (NW) Reef

Fish Haven 17 (NW) Reef is an artificial reef in the Florida Gulf State Waters off Destin, positioned in the Panhandle Region at 30.3316, -86.7812. The structure holds Gag Grouper, which peak from October through December, and anglers target them with bottom fishing using live pinfish, live cigar minnows, live grunts, or cut bait, with jigging butterfly jigs as a supporting approach. Gray Snapper peak from May through August and respond to bottom fishing with live shrimp or cut squid, while chumming with cut sardines or glass minnows draws them up off the reef. Sheepshead take over from January through March, feeding on fiddler crabs, sand fleas, and barnacle-encrusted mussels fished tight to the structure. Overhead, Spanish Mackerel run from March through October and King Mackerel from April through October, with trolling small spoons and slow trolling live cigar minnows or live blue runners working the water column, and Cobia passing through from March to June and again in September and October fall to sight casting with bucktail jigs or live eels.
