About Frangista Beach Culverts Reef
Frangista Beach Culverts Reef is an artificial reef of sunken concrete culverts in Florida's Panhandle state waters off Destin. The culvert structure holds Gray Snapper from May through August and Sheepshead from January through March, while Gag Grouper peak from October through December. Bottom fishing with live pinfish or live shrimp tight to the culverts draws snapper, and fiddler crabs or sand fleas work for Sheepshead picking at the structure. Above the reef, Spanish Mackerel run from March through October and King Mackerel from April through October, with slow trolling live cigar minnows or live menhaden targeting the kings. Cobia pass through from March to June and again in September and October, and sight casting bucktail jigs or live eels to fish cruising near the structure puts them on the line.
