About Grassy Cove
Grassy Cove is a protected inner bay near Destin, Florida, with a sand bottom that runs from 5 to 25 feet deep. Sheepshead lead the winter action from January through March, while spotted seatrout peak in March and April and again in October and November. Red drum push through from September to November, and Spanish mackerel hold in the area from March through October alongside gray snapper and common snook. Sheepshead anglers work the deeper sand with bottom fishing rigs baited with fiddler crabs, live shrimp, or sand fleas, and trout anglers favor drifting with popping cork rigs and paddle tail swimbaits. In the fall, sight casting with gold spoons or soft plastic jerkbaits targets red drum cruising the shallower edges of the cove.
