About Grayton Turtle Reef
Grayton Turtle Reef is an artificial reef in Florida's Panhandle state waters near Destin, where placed structure concentrates bottom fish and draws passing pelagics. Gag Grouper peak from October through December and Sheepshead from January through March, while Gray Snapper hold on the reef from May through August. King Mackerel run from April through October, Spanish Mackerel from March through October, and Cobia show in two windows, March through June and again in September and October. Bottom fishing tight to the structure with live pinfish produces grouper and snapper, and fiddler crabs or sand fleas work for Sheepshead picking at the reef. Above the structure, anglers slow troll live cigar minnows for King Mackerel, troll small spoons for Spanish Mackerel, and sight cast bucktail jigs to Cobia cruising the reef.
