About Henderson Park West Nearshore Reef (South A)

Henderson Park West Nearshore Reef (South A) is an artificial reef in the Gulf state waters off Destin, Florida, part of the Panhandle nearshore reef system. The structure holds cobia from March through June and again in September and October, while king mackerel peak from April through October and Spanish mackerel run from March through October. Gray snapper move onto the reef from May through August, gag grouper peak from October through December, and sheepshead take over from January through March. Bottom fishing is the dominant approach over the structure itself, with live pinfish and live cigar minnows for gag grouper and gray snapper and fiddler crabs, sand fleas, and live shrimp for sheepshead. Above the reef, anglers slow troll live cigar minnows and live menhaden for king mackerel, troll small spoons and diving plugs for Spanish mackerel, and sight cast bucktail jigs and live eels to cobia cruising the structure.
