About Hogtown Bayou
Hogtown Bayou is an inner, protected bay near Destin, Florida, where a soft mud bottom holds 5 to 15 feet of water. Sheepshead lead the winter action from January through March, and Spotted Seatrout peak in March–April and again in October–November. Red Drum move through in strength from September to November, while Spanish Mackerel run from March into October, and Gray Snapper and Common Snook round out the roster. The sheltered mud bottom suits bottom fishing for Sheepshead with fiddler crabs, live shrimp, or sand fleas, and it suits Red Drum on cut bait, live pinfish, or live finger mullet. In the fall, Spotted Seatrout take live shrimp and live finger mullet fished near bottom, as well as walk-the-dog topwater plugs and poppers worked across the calmer shallows.
