About Joes Bayou
Joes Bayou is a protected inner bay in Destin, Florida, with sand bottom in 5 to 10 feet of water along the Panhandle's Gulf state waters. Sheepshead lead the winter fishing and peak from January through March, when anglers work bottom fishing rigs baited with fiddler crabs, live shrimp, sand fleas, or barnacle-encrusted mussels. Spotted seatrout peak in March and April and again in October and November, and they respond to bottom fishing with live shrimp, live pinfish, or live finger mullet as well as topwater casting with walk-the-dog plugs and poppers. Red drum peak from September through November and take soft plastic jerkbaits, paddle tail swimbaits, and gold spoons in the shallow, sheltered water. Spanish mackerel run from March through October, and gray snapper and common snook round out the species list in the bayou.
