About Jones Bayou
Jones Bayou is a sheltered inner bay off Destin, Florida, with a soft mud bottom in 5 to 10 feet of protected water. Sheepshead lead the winter action from January through March, Spotted Seatrout peak in March and April and again in October and November, and Red Drum move through from September through November. Sheepshead respond to bottom fishing with fiddler crabs, live shrimp, or sand fleas, while seatrout take live shrimp under popping cork rigs and paddle tail swimbaits worked over the mud. Red Drum draw sight casts with gold spoons and soft plastic jerkbaits across the bayou's shallow water. Spanish Mackerel run from March through October, and Gray Snapper and Common Snook round out the species list.
