About M/V Courageous Reef
M/V Courageous Reef is an artificial reef in the federal Gulf waters off Destin, Florida, where a sunken vessel provides hard structure on open bottom. King Mackerel patrol the water above the wreck from April through October, while Greater Amberjack peak around the structure in April and May. Red Snapper hold tight to the reef from April through July, Gray Snapper peak from May through August, and Gag Grouper move onto the structure from October through December alongside resident Red Grouper. Bottom fishing with live pinfish, cigar minnows, squid, or cut bait works the snapper and grouper close to the wreck, and live hardtail or live vermilion snapper dropped to the structure draws strikes from Amberjack. Above the reef, slow trolling live cigar minnows, live menhaden, or live blue runners targets King Mackerel cruising the edges of the structure.
