About M/V Miss Nellie Reef
M/V Miss Nellie Reef is an artificial reef in federal Gulf waters off Destin, Florida, where a sunken vessel forms hard structure that holds bottom fish and draws pelagic predators. Red Snapper peak from April through July, and Greater Amberjack crowd the structure in April and May, while King Mackerel patrol the area from April into October. Gray Snapper peak from May through August, and Gag Grouper take over from October through December alongside resident Red Grouper. Bottom fishing with live pinfish, cigar minnows, or cut bait works the wreck for snapper and grouper, and live hardtail dropped tight to the structure targets amberjack. Above the reef, slow trolling live cigar minnows or live menhaden covers the water column for King Mackerel.
