About M/V Prewitt Reef
M/V Prewitt Reef is an artificial reef in federal Gulf waters off Destin, Florida, where the structure concentrates bottom species and pelagic predators. Red Snapper peak from April through July, Greater Amberjack in April and May, Gray Snapper from May through August, and Gag Grouper from October through December, with Red Grouper also holding on the reef. Bottom fishing with live pinfish, cigar minnows, or cut bait works for the snapper and grouper, while amberjack respond to live hardtail lowered to the structure or butterfly jigs worked vertically. King Mackerel cruise above the reef from April through October and take slow-trolled live cigar minnows, menhaden, or blue runners. Gray Snapper feed more readily when anglers chum with cut sardines or glass minnows and then bottom fish with live shrimp or cut squid.
