About Manatee Point
Manatee Point is an outer, exposed drop-off near Destin, Florida, where a sand bottom falls away through depths of 260 to 660 feet in the Panhandle Region of Florida's Gulf state waters. Sheepshead lead the winter season with a peak from January through March, Spotted Seatrout peak in March–April and again in October–November, and Red Drum run strongest from September through November. Spanish Mackerel hold a long window from March through October, and Gray Snapper and Common Snook round out the species list. Along the edge of the drop, anglers bottom fish fiddler crabs, live shrimp, or sand fleas for Sheepshead and present cut bait or live pinfish on the bottom for Red Drum. Above the break, trolling small spoons and diving plugs covers ground for Spanish Mackerel, and anglers cast metal jigs when schools break at the surface.
