About Marler Bayou
Marler Bayou is a protected inner bay off the Destin waterfront in the Florida Panhandle, with a sand bottom running 5 to 15 feet deep. Sheepshead lead the winter season from January through March, and anglers bottom fish them with fiddler crabs, live shrimp, sand fleas, and barnacle-encrusted mussels. Spotted seatrout peak in March–April and again in October–November, when drifting with live shrimp, popping cork rigs, and paddle tail swimbaits covers the sandy shallows. Red drum move through from September to November and respond to sight casting with gold spoons, soft plastic jerkbaits, and live shrimp. Spanish mackerel run from March through October alongside gray snapper and common snook, and trolling small spoons and diving plugs puts baits in front of the mackerel.
