About Poquito Bayou
Poquito Bayou is a protected inner bay off Choctawhatchee Bay in Destin, Florida, with a sand bottom running 5 to 10 feet deep. Sheepshead lead the winter action from January through March, when bottom fishing with fiddler crabs, live shrimp, or sand fleas works the bayou's structure. Spotted seatrout peak in March and April and again in October and November, and drifting with live shrimp under popping cork rigs or paddle tail swimbaits covers the sandy flats. Red drum move through from September to November, responding to sight casting with gold spoons and soft plastic jerkbaits in the shallow, sheltered water. Spanish mackerel run from March through October, while gray snapper and common snook round out the species mix in this calm, inner-protected water.
